Understanding the Bankruptcy Process

Many people are reluctant to file bankruptcy because they do not understand the process. They may also be concerned about losing assets and protecting their credit. When you are considering bankruptcy, but do not fully understand your rights or options, Susan M. Williams will help. With over 25 years of experience in debt relief and bankruptcy law, Attorney Williams will guide you through the complex bankruptcy system.

We work to help our clients get the fresh start they need. Call us today at 860-265-4764 or contact us by e-mail to arrange a free consultation with Attorney Susan M. Williams.

Free initial consultation

We offer a free initial consultation to every client considering bankruptcy. At this informational meeting we will answer your questions, and collect necessary information regarding your debts, income and assets. We will give you the necessary tools to make the right decision for your financial future.

Preparation of petition and schedule of meeting

If we determine that bankruptcy is the best option for you, we will begin the process of fully developing your case. Attorney Williams employs a team of legal professionals who will collect all necessary documentation and assist in the preparation of the petition. Attorney Williams personally reviews all petitions and meets with the client before filing the documents with the court.

Hearing and meeting with creditors

Attorney Williams will appear with you at a hearing before the trustee appointed to your case. She will ensure that you are fully prepared for your hearing so that you can answer questions directly and honestly in support of your bankruptcy petition. A Chapter 13 bankruptcy will always require an additional confirmation hearing.

Discharge and credit counseling requirements

Usually after your debts are discharged, courts will require credit counseling, requiring that you attend one class prior to filing and debtor's education course while your case is pending. Debtor education is a mandatory component of the bankruptcy process.

With over 25 years of experience, we take pride in providing our clients with the personal attention they deserve. If you live in Massachusetts or Connecticut, call Susan M. Williams in Enfield, Connecticut at 860-265-4764 or contact us by e-mail, to schedule a free consultation with our lawyer.
